9" questions
I was wondering what you guys prefer for a 9" housing. I dont mind spending a little more for a better housing so thats out of the question.
Who do you like? I've limited it down to Moser, QP and Strange. Why do you like them over the others? Pro's and Con's? If I cant decided by new years I'm just gonna pony up the $ for a S60 so someone help me lol |
me i plan on going midwest when the time comes after you add it all up its the same as a normal rear end and its cool to look at
Me pizza and 94rag all went with housings from QP.
Why did you guys go with QP?
I've been eyeballing this.. http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=194290 |
if i had to do it all over again for what i have into it id still get the QP. the craftsmanship is amazing for the price. Not saying the Fab-9 is a joke its not and Hands down the strongest piece you will see and buy. But not necessary for my build or power level. i have 1300 bux into my complete 31 spline axles thats good for 600hp. you make your own choice BUTTTT stay away from Moser there 9" housing is terrible. stranger are ok but dont have you gears setup by them they Always come noisy. So id say either QP and moser axles. or a Fab-9 and dont spare any expense. thats my .02

Thanks for the input. I've heard a few stories about the moser tq arm bolts backing out etc.
the moser torque arm problems you read about are on the 12 bolts. people dont know how to use an impact gun and locktite. But there torque arm mount on the 9" isnt Bad but it needs to be clearance to the floor pans same with strange. the QP and Midwest are direct bolt-ins.
Great now I dont know what to do at all... S60 here I come!
the S60 you have to realy clearanc the floor for it. If you got that one you posed for 2200 you could have the best rear that you going to get on that car.
Its not 2200... its 1500 lol
then another 700 for a locked center chunk
Yeah, I think I''m gonna shoot for something like that next. It's a little much but it should NEVER break.
After looking into 12 bolts I'll stick to the 9" since it'll be stronger in the long run and we all know I change things up all the time like a retard...
Pizza what kinda axles came with your rear? I was thinking of ordering some Strange 35 splines. |
i like moser axles better then anyones axles. and thats what comes with the QP rear it was $1050 to my door and it came with either 31 or 35 spline Moser axles. best bet for the doe. and a center section can be had for under 500. i bought an open diff 3.50 gears center section for 190 shipped and bought a full weight drag spool for another 100 shipped. and new bearings were like 30 bux. all in all $1350 ish for a complete new Ford 9" you cant beat that.
Sounds good to me, how long did it take for you to get it after ordering? I coulda saved you 100 bux on the center section lol
I think I'll deff. go with 35 splines axles though since the motor is quite torquey and I'll be leaving off a brake, plus if I ever swap heads it'll bring me close to the limits I would think. |
you dont want to go too big and waiste rotating mass for nothing. if you dont NEED 35 splines dont get 35 splines. 31 spline axles will handle a 500rwt car with a 3.06 first gear dumping it in first at peak torque. i wouldnt worry too much about it especially with an auto launched off break or not you still arent hitting like a manual.
First gear is 2.48:1, Second gear is 1.48:1, and Third gear is 1:1
4200 off the brake |
31 spline will hold that and then some!! no need for 35's IMO. just added weight for nothing. and with 31 splines you can run a smaller 2.89 bearing and save a bit more. or even run a 3.06 case either way its cheap. as a 35 spline spool or carrier wont fit a 3.06 or a 2.89 case. and the ones that do i wouldnt use. the bearing race surface will be rather thing. if i were to run 35 splines id get a strange 3.25 case and build from there but wen you doen with a good posi or locker your looking at $700 Plus and for not a shit ton added strength for what your gunna use it for.
