Line Lock kits, any recommendations?

Ok looking to buy a line lock kit, already got some suspension goodies on the way here. Now just need some advice on a good kit. Seen the SLP and Hurst kits both for the LSx cars and wondering what everybody's advice would be on each. What are you running and how's it working for you? Do you like it, what would you change about it if you could, etc...

Thanks!

SLP will drop right in with little to no bending of brake lines. So for easy of install. get it.

84ta406 07-12-2012 02:11 AM

I did a SLP one and it was EASY!

On the other side, I did a hurst one once with just the solenoid for like 65 and it was still easy. Ill take a few hours labor over spending twice as much

BigMac76 07-12-2012 02:20 AM

Nothing to the installs really, worst part is bleeding the brakes afterwards. Not easy doing it solo, and sorry but I don't trust my girl to pump the brake for me lol.

But yeah, ease of installation does help, but twice the price doesn't necessarily justify it.

And there's a kid in newington ct that has the slp kit for $100. too bad it's like an hour away from me. last time i went to ct, well let's just say it was a bad experience for all of those involved. long story short, looked at a 95 camaro, kid says yeah it's in wicked good shape. get there and it's beat to shit, drove 2 hours each way, sorry but no snow in this story, but there were a lot of hills hahaha.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 07-12-2012 02:22 AM

as a kit you get harness, button, solenoid, and brake lines. wich i believe now are stainless. buy all that and its more then the cost difference.

Sorry Zinc plated. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SLE-25000/?rtype=10

84ta406 07-12-2012 02:26 AM

Oh I agree, getting the whole kit is SIMPLE and easy. I'm just cheap and have all the other shit at the garage lol

I do like the SLP kit, if I was to do one on my dads car it would probably be that one.

SLP IROC-Z 07-12-2012 02:42 AM

Buddy of mine in Assonet is thinking of dumping his 68 Z clone. Still waiting on the title search to come up with a title for it yet and he's getting discouraged. Been almost 3 yrs and no response from them yet so he's thinking about selling it. He told me that if I wanted it then I'd be the first to get dibs on it. But then again I'd have to get rid of mine first, would be way too many cars if I picked it up.

SLP IROC-Z 07-16-2012 06:11 PM

go with the SLP kit

My84Z 07-16-2012 06:58 PM

Slp kit here also but alittle fact slp kit is not legal for the track. Not that anyone checks but just an fyi. Unless somethings changed since i bought mine

SLP IROC-Z 07-16-2012 07:00 PM

what makes them not track legal?

My84Z 07-16-2012 07:53 PM

It's activated by ground which is not legal and dangerous 2 it is a toggle switch not a momentary switch and 3 and this was one i couldn't remember but i think the noid is not certified

SLP IROC-Z 07-16-2012 08:28 PM

hmm well it can be wired either way so thats not really a problem. momentary switch is an easy fix, radio shack. im not sure about the certification either but the "SLP" solenoid is the same as biondos which is a popular unit.

941LE 07-16-2012 08:50 PM

i run a SLP also

I wired up the slp kit they way they show you in the instructions, and then tried to hook up an indicator light and ran into the biggest headache ever because it is ground activated. So I just re-wired the whole thing the right way. Theres less length of wire to run with the way the show you how to hook it up, but still, as you said, its dangerous.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 07-16-2012 11:49 PM

yeah never thought of it before ground controlled is rather stupid isnt it. say the wire to the switch shorts to ground WELL no its on. ALL THE TIME. haha i bought the biondo and have yet to install it. SLP kit just makes it easier. and this is if you keep the car!?!?!?!

BigMac76 07-17-2012 04:42 AM

Yeah, if I keep the car I will be picking it up. In talks with the guy who has it. I'm too lazy to drive all the way to ct to pick it up so having him give me a quote on shipping it. Screw driving 2 hours roundtrip with my daughter to get a part for the car, nawahimsayin wahimsayin?

Camaro9969 07-17-2012 11:48 AM

Get the SJM kit comes with line lock and gets rid of that god awful ABS crap and its cheap

Haha 2hrs is nothing I go for 2 hr cruises by myself on the weekends just for the hell of it lol

BigMac76 07-18-2012 04:46 PM

Wish I could do that. Hard to when you have a little girl who is almost 4. Bad enough I spend 2 hours a day on my ass driving to and from work.

84ta406 07-19-2012 01:23 PM

I drove two hours each way(4 total) to pick up my manifold from DAWG, it was only 80bux too. lol

BigMac76 07-19-2012 01:58 PM

might make a trip this weeked with the little one to hartford. just wish it was closer is all. guy is dragging his feet about shipping now, don't blame him. also found a car bra as well for it in bristol for $30. might meet up with him as well and kill 2 birds with one stone.

84ta406 07-19-2012 02:35 PM

No bra! Dont do it!

My car had a bra on it when i bought it....DO NOT DO IT. I will NEVER EVER buy a car again that has or had a bra on it, period.

TOTALLY ruined the WHOLE front of the cars paint.

/rant

BigMac76 07-19-2012 05:02 PM

well won't be getting either, bra is sold as well as the slp kit. kid sold it out from under me after i already paypal'd him half of the money. told him he needs to return it by the end of the day or i will be filing a dispute with paypal. this is why i hate craigslist...

i was going to put a bra on it because it's a daily driver and don't want any more chips in the front of it. but no worries, won't be happening anyways

Updated 9:30pm 7-19-12:
Was refunded the money, took another "screened call" and text message to him to let him know I was serious about it. Gave him half out of good faith to prove I was 100% serious bout the deal and that's what came of it...

Oh well, better buying new and knowing 100% what I'm getting in the end. So, with all the actiong going on, anybody else want to offer up another line lock kit that is as easy to install as the slp kit or even better?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 07-20-2012 01:14 PM

buy it from summit. haha its cheap enough and free ship?

BigMac76 07-20-2012 01:43 PM

yeah i'm just a cheap bastard hahaha. it's $160 new from summit and ships free and i don't have to drive to ct to get it.

SLP IROC-Z 07-20-2012 03:03 PM

damn price went up huh, they used to be $130.00
