How much is my car worth?

I hate to ask, but I have to seriously consider selling my car. I'm going to be moving and my expenses are going to increase dramatically, and a second car would be a serious burden.

Most people probably know all this stuff, but here are the details:

1997 Firebird Formula
102,000 miles
Dark Yellow Green Metallic
Automatic with 3.23 gears
T Tops which do not leak
Traction control
Power windows/locks/mirrors
Monsoon cd audio system, newer speakers
Gray cloth interior in excellent shape
Paint is in good condition but has a few dings and scratches
Brand new OEM water pump and distributor cap, new rear calipers going on soon. Good battery.
Car runs strong and hard, no issues with the opti.
It has some seals and gaskets that leak, intake manifold, oil pan, possibly valve seals. I've just been driving it as is and topping off the oil but ideally those should be fixed.
AC is not working, I believe it has a leak somewhere. Compressor is fairly new quality non-remanufactured unit along with the dryer, expansion valve and most seals. Heat works.

I would be selling it as close to stock as possible. It will probably include the cold air intake since I don't have a stock intake to put on. I plan to sell the WS6 wheels and Koni shocks separately. Stock exhaust, all emissions present and working.

Anything I'm forgetting? I just want to get an idea of what I should ask for it.

NOOOOOO!!! Don't do it man, I regretted selling my 93 for the longest time until I got my TA, but, I got 3800 for my Z when I sold it just to give you an idea. 180k on it 6 speed, basic bolt-ons, chipped front bumper, ripped drivers seat, somewhat leaky t tops, no mechanical issues that I was aware of. I think you should be able to get more than that for it but most people will cringe when they hear about leaking oil seals.

Sorry to hear you have to move. You sure you have to sell your car, maybe you can just store it until you can get back on your feet.

ZFreie 06-28-2014 10:23 PM

WHAT! Where are you moving to!

Your car is clean as hell but we all know the market for them. 4-5k I think would move it. When are you planing to move? I'm almost done the garage lol

Formula413 06-29-2014 05:24 AM

I'm only planning on moving two towns over. I just hate where I live now, and I've lived here for almost five years. To make this work something will have to get sacrificed, and the car is the obvious choice. It sucks but I have to make some difficult decisions. Life has a way of catching up with you.

That would be fine if it didn't cost me anything, but finding an arrangement like that is a long shot. I had a friend offer to let me park it at his place, but it would have to stay registered per that town's BS regulations. Just to keep it on the road is about $80/month. Things are going to be tight for me if this all goes through, and even that much would be a drag.

LSX-Nation 06-29-2014 01:13 PM

That sucks but maybe down the road you can get into something better. Doesn't mean you won't ever get Into another f-body again. I'd say 4-5. They are nice cars just sucks the retail value isn't there.

Formula413 06-29-2014 02:17 PM

If I can ever get myself into a better position I would definitely get another one, and it would be a six speed next time.

As far as the value of it I would be really surprised if I could get $4K for it but I suppose that would be a good starting point. I'm still not 100% sure I will be selling it but I don't see many good options for myself.

ZFreie 06-29-2014 04:04 PM

4k for your car is more then reasonable. Its hard to find clean unmolested 4th gens.

Not a bad idea right there

DemonWithin99 06-30-2014 02:18 PM

I'm sure Dave has room in the barn... :)

but 4k is a great start, the paint alone should help move it.

irockidz28 06-30-2014 03:28 PM

you have a clean car Alex. I think 4k is fair price. You could probably ask a little higher but people that have 5k to spend try to buy high mile beat LS cars.

The beat plow truck is back in the barn and another full size vehicle won't fit in there.

There are three ancient cow stalls in there that I should take out some day to make some room.

Formula413 06-30-2014 07:55 PM

Even if I could store it at no cost it would be just sitting around collecting dust which is no good. And I really don't know when I'll be in a good position to have two cars again. Plus I really don't want to work on cars any more than I have to, and at that car's age things will come up.

frankzlt1 06-30-2014 08:17 PM

would it be more expensive if you lived in ct and worked in mass? i was wondering if there was any good rents in ct that wouldn't hinder you in travel for work so you can keep your car. i know ct has that same law if you have a vehicle not registered in you drive way you can get fined but they dont push it unless a neighbor is being a nosy dick, and usually that law is for more of the people that have 5 plus cars hanging out on ther front lawn making the property looking like crap. you have a beautiful formy and its only 1 car.

KLAB 07-02-2014 01:52 AM

I'd put it for $4500 and be pretty firm.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 07-03-2014 02:45 AM

if you can do it to yourself. and not regret it later.... and you will. dump it. no sence in having it sit and rot out. like klab sed 4500 and be pretty stubborn with the price. thats More then fair and should sell quick. could also look into a dealership used car places will sometime do a consignment type thing. cant hurt to ask and will get alot more real traffic then the blow hards on CL.

KLAB 07-03-2014 04:49 PM

I would post it on LTxtech.com 's vehicle classifieds.. people will travel for a clean LT1

black heartbeat 07-04-2014 07:33 AM

5k obo that way you have somewhere to move because you will be lowballed

Formula413 07-04-2014 01:00 PM

Honestly with the market today I'd be surprised if I could get $3,000 for it.

frankzlt1 07-04-2014 04:47 PM

Alex dont low ball yourself, your car is clean and there really isn't many cars like yours put the price up 4,5-5 k. you'll be surprised the car will sell probably quick. Then you'll be kicking yourself in the ass.

Formula413 07-04-2014 05:03 PM

I guess we'll see. Believe me I'm not looking forward to selling it. But I'm SICK of where I live and it's been almost five years. I need a change. And I need to free up some money to do that. Plus I'm getting sick of working on cars, and the Formula is only going to need more work. And as much as I like it there are things in life that are more important, and something has to be sacrificed. It sucks but what can you do? That's life.

KLAB 07-04-2014 09:43 PM

if you think you're going to regret it dude just put it on the back burner take it off the road and do little tune ups as you find time for next summer. I think i will be doing that with my car soon myself im in the same situation. at this pint its like might as well just keep the car selling it for 4500 is a loss kinda..

KLAB 07-04-2014 09:45 PM

recent grad plus moving plus need a better DD i think its gonna be sitting at my parents house in a month or so just drive up and work on it.

Formula413 07-04-2014 09:52 PM

I don't even have a place to put it if I take it off the road. A friend of mine offered to let me park it at his place but it has to stay registered or the city will write a ticket.

KB93z28 07-05-2014 09:12 PM

Dude, you can definitely get more than 3k for it. I got 3800 for my 93! And that was just a Camaro with 180k on it! It didn't even take me that long to sell it.
