Me, with a camaro?

Ok, I'm bored, so I figured I'd start up a build thread since I plan to be making some more upgrades in the next couple months ;)

The car is a 95 Z28. Lt1/T56 car. I'm normally a firebird guy, never really been a camaro fan, but, the deal I got on this car was too good to pass up. When I got it the mods it came with were ported stock heads/intake, lt4 hot cam, roller rockers, pacesetter mid length headers, broomstick modded cat, magnaflow cat back, cold air intake, and a pcm4less tune.
Since I got it I've added a walboro 255 fuel pump (stock one puked), replaced the accel opti with an MSD unit (thanks to pizza!),a set of taylor 8.2mm plug wires, and a set of NGK tr55's.
All of this was good for 319 horse to the wheels on Slowhawks mustang dyno. The car is a blast to drive but looks like poo and, I can never leave well enough alone.
Here it is in all it's glory:

The chassis of the car has over 180k on it but the underneath is super clean.

However, the interior was trashed, and tan, yucky lol.

So, we picked up a complete 97 v6 car that had a mint 30th anniversary red insert interior, as well as all the body parts I need to make this one mint.

Anyhow, we did a complete interior swap, new style dash and all. Much much nicer in my opinion.
Here's a couple in process and completed pics:
http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/IMG_0233.jpg
http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/IMG_0235.jpg

Pile of old crap:

And all together:

bottledbird68 04-09-2010 07:02 PM

And before anyone says it, yes, the v6 car was an auto so all I had was the new style auto console and the old style manual console. I got creative and mated the two together. Works for now lol. Anyone have a spare 97 up t56 console floating around?

Also did the 97 up taillight conversion. My other half decided she likes the new lights better. No pics there. They're taillights, you know what they look like lol.

More to come soon. Comment away :)

Yes, I completely agree. I didn't like the 96 down dash AT ALL! Plus we had to do a heater core anyhow so all the more reason to swap.

And as for the heads, I agree and you're killing me. I didn't want to spend too much more on this car this year. Really want my 87 out this year too. Most of what I plan to do to this now I already have laying around. But yeah, when/if you decide to let me know. You never know, I will need a good set of heads for the 383 I'll build when I blow up the current motor... ;)

Honestly, not too bad. Me and my other half did the whole interior swap in an afternoon. Including stripping it from the parts car too.

Only advice is grab as much of the donor car harness as you can. Most of the swap is a bolt in but you do have to change a few connectors and extend a few wires here and there.
Only time consuming part is the cluster, changing the big plug for it. Just got a pinout diagram for my car, and the cluster out of the 93 bird we used, and spliced whatever wires wherever they had to go. Patience and it was right the first try :)

I know, and I've been enjoying it that way. But, it's been a couple seasons since I've had a nice looking hot rod together. It won't take much for me to make it pretty so as soon as her subie is out of the garage this one will most likely be getting a makeover :)

TBerry95z28 04-10-2010 09:04 PM

goin along great man!

bottledbird68 04-13-2010 03:22 AM

Hit the swap meet at stafford speedway yesterday. Picked up a couple things, along with some other stuff I already had floating around, and a couple other tires I snagged today. :)
Here's a sneak peek of things to come:

bottledbird68 04-16-2010 07:37 PM

Had to toss a pic of the new wheels in here too ;)

http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...newwheels1.jpg

bottledbird68 04-16-2010 07:41 PM

And while I was playing musical wheels I tossed on the 275/60/15's et streets from the 68.

Hooked mint, got about 10ft of wheelspin from popping the clutch with them dead cold. Then I got the rest of first and most of second before I realized it was clutch and not tires spinning. Oops, lol. Time to price out a spec...

Honestly, It's just been a lot of careful internet shopping and scrounging for the best deals I can find.
Only really expensive part was the wheels/tires, they cost me as much as the car did originally lol.

monytorris 04-20-2010 10:07 PM

Can't wait until it's done! That car has a lot of potential!

bottledbird68 06-30-2010 03:34 AM

Haven't updated this in a while as I haven't done much to it. Been too busy with work.
But anyhow, since I tossed a quick pic up elsewhere figured I may as well add it here too ;)

One of the stock Bose speakers took a crap and I didn't feel like finding an original. As with everything else stuff snowballs and we wound up replacing all 4 speakers, rewiring the car to eliminate the Bose amps (factory Bose speakers are 1 ohm, aftermarkets are 2 ohm so everything sounded like doody until the Bose amps were gone. Trust me, that one took some head scratching lol).
Then, well, we like our bass lol. Stock sub had to go. Looked at stealth stuff but for the extra money decided they weren't worth it and did this:
http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/d524f9f5.jpg
I was going to make a cover to hide it all but we decided it looks to cool. Plus it's all lower end stuff that doesn't totally scream steal me but it still sounds really good

Formula413 07-01-2010 02:37 AM

I could never give up my T Top well :haha: But that does look good.

941LE 07-01-2010 07:08 PM

poor kids heads r bouncing off the box lol

bottledbird68 07-01-2010 08:33 PM

I didn't give up my t top well either, that's why they are there instead of down low.

And no, no heads hitting the box lol tough to tell in the pic but the back of the seat is taller than the box. Couldn't hit it from a seated position if you tried. ;)

bottledbird68 08-31-2010 08:05 AM

Here we go, it'll be green no more :)

Been busting my ass the past couple weeks trying to get this and her subie ready for the car show at work. This was tonight at 11pm. Wish me luck lol.

irockidz28 08-31-2010 03:39 PM

Yessir, with some sort of twist. We'll just have to wait and see what comes out of the gun when it's in the booth ;)

But either way I'm calling it. Her subie kicked my ass till 6am last night so I still don't have the bodywork done or the nose on.
Decided I'm not going to hack the car to make one show. Going to miss works show.
Ah well, I'll get it done next week

bottledbird68 09-07-2010 05:11 AM

Here's how I left it tonight, bodywork all done and new rear bumper on.
http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/d91c21e9.jpg
http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/931a8def.jpg

Hopefully get the new fenders and front bumper on it tomorrow and some color on it tomorrow night if all goes well :)

Navy01z 09-07-2010 05:29 AM

Since your changing the color, whats your plan for the engine bay and are you gonna jam it?

Doors and hatch are already jambed, as are the sides of the hood and the fenders.

As for the engine bay I'm most likely going to take the "wait until the engine's out and spray it right then" approach that I usually take with all my projects. I rarely keep the engine bay clean enough to show it off anyhow so few ever see it lol.
If it bugs me too much afterwards it's nothing an afternoon and a couple cans of spray paint can't take care of. But, it'll most likely wait until I have a need to pull the motor and get done right whenever that may be.

bottledbird68 09-08-2010 02:20 AM

Progress...
http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/8353df04.jpg
And another, caught her legs to prove that she helps work on them too. She's the one who pulled the whole nose off while I was sanding. I have better but I'll get yelled at cause she's dirty lol
http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/d9e67a2b.jpg

bottledbird68 09-08-2010 02:29 AM

And here's how we left it for the night. Decided I'm tired of killing myself. If we get it done for Sunday great, if not, oh well :p

Mostly sanded and ready to go

Eh, compared to her subie we just did this ones a quicky. Most of it's plastic so no dents, and I guess I'm getting lazy in my old age, if it was damaged and unbolts we just changed it lol.
Except for the hood, that was just a few small dings so I took care of them. Still suprised we're leaving the stock one, just couldn't find anything we liked enough to go drop $4-500 on so we said screw it. I'll just have to have the paint make up for the wow factor.

Agreed, I'm a die hard firebird guy. This car is just my beater bitch lol.
I've been very tempted to gut it for other projects a few times but she wont let me. Guess I'm stuck with it. :D

*LS1* Queen 09-08-2010 03:32 AM

nice...cant wait to see it all done

bottledbird68 09-08-2010 09:36 PM

Here's how I left it today. Nose is all on and as lined up as it's gonna be. Just need to finish sanding it and then it's paint time. Only put a few hours in today, had other stuff to attend to during the morning. Getting there though.
Only other thing I will say is aftermarket fenders for these cars fit like week old dog poo. I spent a good hour and a half tweaking before I gave up and decided it was close enough :p
