thats sweet keep us updated

lunatic_magnet 02-18-2016 02:01 PM

been a long time since i updated this thread. life got in the way.

where i left off was here:
http://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/...80&oe=576BDDF0

http://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/...8c&oe=575F7117

http://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/...11&oe=575CA45F

what we had was a 1st gen front subframe, with a tube chassis on back. body sits over the top. quickchange rear end with coil overs out back.

emphasis on Had.

the car was sitting untouched for more than 5 years. i decided with a few more years of experience under my belt that I could do a better job building the car i really wanted, and make it something that would handle better. the chassis i first built was "ok" and would work. but it wasn't that nice, and was obviously put together as a compromise and without a plan from the beginning. time for a new plan.

i started working on it in november. bought a clapped out 84 corvette for parts and started in a new direction. this is what we have now.
a full tube chassis with corvette front and rear IRS suspension. setting up for coil overs on all 4 corners.

http://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/...6c&oe=57716909

http://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/...3c&oe=5727B633

http://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/...80&oe=572B8591

http://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/...a7&oe=572402C0

i'm almost done with the coil over mounts, then i can get to setting an engine in it.

Grovlet 02-18-2016 11:27 PM

Well - That's a change - but sounds like good progress!!!:wolf:

Nice!!! Looks like you have made some huge improvements.

lunatic_magnet 02-20-2016 03:41 PM

rebuilt the front suspension with new bushings and whatnot, test fit a coil over to make sure everything is in the right place.

frankzlt1 04-30-2016 02:13 AM

Looking great. You get her running?

lunatic_magnet 05-01-2016 10:41 AM

i wish, nowhere near running yet... lol. just fit engine in for mock up and mounts and stuff.
it's still just a bare frame with a body sitting on it, no floors in it or anything.

DAWG 06-09-2016 10:08 PM

looks good thus far!

lunatic_magnet 03-21-2017 06:22 PM

2 Attachment(s)
still plugging along... chassis is nearly finished, need to mount the fuel cell, tear everything down, and add a few more bars before chassis paint.

ZFreie 03-21-2017 08:54 PM

Holy hell, that thing looks mean, shit throw a windshield in and drive it like that!

lunatic_magnet 04-25-2017 11:21 PM

finally to teardown stage... time to go over all the welds, add some gussets and some more braces, then paint.
