New mbr here, could use some help. HIGH IDLE **FIXED** P2!!
Well it seems that my car is idling high, I have a few issues going on I believe to be a vacuum leak.
My car idles right at 1,000RPMs and when I drive and am moving, push the clutch in it my RPMs hang around 1,500 RPMs. When I come to a stop they settle back down, around 1,000RPMs, but every once and a while they drop down to 500 or so RPMs and the car almost dies. I do want to note, the car seems to idle smooth, I have poly motor mounts, so I have a little vibration at idle, but the idle seems smooth, just doesnt FEEL like a vac leak (which I have had before on other cars and you feel them, more). Seems like a goddamned vaccum leak. No SES codes yet, but Im sure they will come since I have these issues and about 25miles on the reset PCM. Last time I reset the PCM I had codes P0171 and P0174 at about 50 miles with the new setup (lontgubes, cats, lid, etc). Anyone have a stock idle vid? is 1,000RPMs Normal idle for an M6 car that is warmed up? I guess I should go buy some carb cleaner, where should I start to spray? |
Would you guys recommend buying a vac gauge? Where can you purchase one? Autozone sure as hell doesn't have them.

hey man. Sounds like it could be a vaccum leak. My SS did something similar after I installed my ls6 intake. It turned out to be that the intake wasnt completley sealed on one of the ports. Also my guy Don (slowhawk) replaced all of the o-rings on the injectors too. and bam it fixed it. Also it could be your MAF might be pretty damn dirty too.
after you did your longtubes did you delete your cats or no. If so your rear o2s need to be tuned out. |
easiest way to see if it is the intake spray some starting fluid or carb cleaner around the intake and see if the idle fluctuates if it does then you have a leak in there. my guess would be something is leaking check the intake bellows and lid assuming you have a ls1

Sorry guys. Car is a 98 Trans Am, M6.
I have already replaced the MAF and have all codes deleted out (although I have hi-flow cats). |
The easiest is to have someeone like myself check it out with a computer.
Could be simple or could be one of many sensors. |
Pretty sure stock idle when warm is 750 RPM. Keep in mind your tach may be off by 200 RPM.
|
Vacuum leak, underlying sensor problem that is lower tier code a scanner wont pick up.
Last month I had an idle issue ended up being a bad tps so you never know. Oh and welcome to the site. |
thanks for the possible solutions guys! Slowhawk, do you have any place in Maine or NH where you could maybe take a look at the car? I figure you are down in mass or CT.
