probably a 22lr because there is near no recoil and it's either a semi-auto or a lever action with a tube magazine meaning most likely was either chambered for a rimfire cartridge or a low velocity round like a .32 Special or a .35 Rem. It's hard the say for sure there were so many low velocity rounds back then. I mean the 30/30 was considered blistering and they had a lot of odd chambers like the .28 RF and the .34 RF which were pretty much target only rounds much like the .32 S&W of today
