Helpful links for tuners:
I've been researching a bit on tuning and trying to know what to do when it comes time to correct my pcm after a gear ratio change and emissions/cat delete. Here are some helpful links I found if anyone is in the same boat as I am:
LT1 PCM Tuning - Tips & Tricks for DIY Tuning. LJ's PCM Tutorial, Version 2.1 Analysis of the effects on Spark Advance on LT1 engine at idle. SCANNER READINGS - WHAT DO THEY MEAN? Reading up on this has helped me out a great deal, however does anyone know of any good book(s) that I could get to read and learn more? The one thing that I am a tad bit INCONFIDENT about with my upcoming project is the computer... :klab: |
Isnt there a book about tuning LT1's from Lingenfelter?

Well I searched for it on amazon and just bought these two books used tho pretty cheap lol:
How to Tune and Modify Chevrolet Fuel Injection Chevrolet Camaro Pontiac Firebird: 1993 thru 2002 Haynes Repair Manual (because looking at Mike's manual last night it has good wiring diagrams) |
dont bother unless you have a load dyno and a wide band Kevin. all you should be getting yourself into for tuning is turning codes off for shit you have removed. i don NOT recommend and i will never recomend tuning a car yourself, its REAL easy to fuck shit up. and then you have no one to blame for a dead engine but yourself. leave it to a proffesional if the car need ANYYYYY air fuel adjustments or ESPECIALLY spark curve changes. LEAVE IT ALONE. ok ive sed my piece have fun blowing shit up cuz you wont listen.

For the sake of arguing... People have been burning chips and crap for thirdgens for over 15 years now. I know a few people who do it on their cars right now as well and have had very good success. One of them being a F1A Procharged 383... at that point I say just go carb but he wants the EFI and it's worked out for him.
You dont hafta be a rocket scientist to give yourself a base tune just need to be careful and dont go WOT all the time! |
I'm just trying to learn how to delete the codes and calibrate the speedo and shit. Not gonna fuck with anything else lol.

ok good. as soon as i saw your post about spark curves on LT1's you got me a littlleeeeee concerned.
and Josh. how close do you honestly think there car is tuning it them selves and with a Chipped PCM?!?! Really. i bet they pick up 15+ rwhp gain driveablilty and there motor will last longer if it was tuned on a proper pcm and tuned professionally. the EFI connections kit is CHEAPPPPP compared to a blown motor. or being stuck with cam surges and shitty slow reacting ecm's that no professional even wants to tune. |
Hey I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing lol Theres a reason my tuning uses a screwdriver and a timing light lol
