But, it is very true that unless you drive like an asshole on the street all the time (like me lol) or road race/autocross the car than the stock stuff will work ok.
I myself cant deal with stock stuff, by comparison I have destroyed pads and warped the rotors on both stock third gen and stock lt1 brakes. Both within a few months of driving. It is entirely possible for stock brakes to be completely inadequate on the street if you push the car to it's limits all the time. Trust me, there's a reason why it's faster for me to take the back roads home from work at 3 am. I can go much faster than i can going down rt2. No cops on the back roads at that hour lol.
