Talking Found my new DD!

I have been searching for a DD for a while. Civic Si is 200hp NA, but a crazy looking interior, Cobalt SS is still a cavalier, Evo IX or X doesn't have the best gas mileage, and Now I've found the 2010 VW GTI. This darn thing makes just as much power as my 95 F-150. LOL!

I wanted a turbo 4 (not boggy like NA), 2dr, nice interior and not cheap, I've never had leather, a quiet ride, good gas mileage, a COMFORTABLE ride, and has enough power to have fun with.

My reasons and what I like:

Full leather Interior
Power Sunroof
Sport seats with Lumbar (NICE bolsters!)
6 Speed Auto with Sport mode and DSG Tip-Tronic Tap shift
HID Headlights
Dynaudio 300w Stereo
DVD NAV system
iPod interface
Aux audio input
Steering wheel audio controls
Onboard Bluetooth
Dual zone HVAC
Rear HVAC
Adjustable armrests (leather)
Rear seat armrests (leather) with rear trunk access cover

200hp intercooled turbo 4
18" Wheels

Seats four comfortably (incl driver)
Still has room in the trunk for whatever
Full sized spare
24/32mpg
Keeps it's value! Even the two or three year old models are still going for $21k-$28k (R32). This has Audi parts in it without the pricetag.

I mean seriously. Go price a GM sport coupe with these options and it will run you a lot more. I can get this car BRAND NEW for $28k. Who wants to spend more than that anyway. I've driven this car and even on the HW doing 80 you really don't feel it. You really don't feel 110 either. Such a pleasant change from the F-Body that really doesn't ride that great and you could feel it if you hit a pebble at 90 or 110. It's quiet inside, no annoying exhaust drone (truck has it too) everything is right where it should be. The door sil is at the right height to put your arm and grab the wheel.

If anyone is looking for a VERY nice daily driver, you should seriously consider this car! The salesman yesterday would not budge on the asking price so I told him I got some bills to take care of first before I take on payments again.

Here's some pics I got during the test drive yesterday.

Yeah, I've been reading consumer reports and my uncle was saying that they're nightmares, but the new ones are getting good reviews. Hey, that's what a warranty is for, right? The MK IV's weren't that great. These seem to be coming back in quality.

Shit, the resale is still high though, so they hold their value. if you can pick one up brand new for $28k and it STILL resales for $28k KBB three years later, then holy shit. I'll buy a brand new one. There's an R32 here for $28k and KBB shows $30k for it. 0_o

And this doesn't bode well for the F-Body group when someone considers a different car for a DD that is NOT a V8 and has great quality and most call it rice. Granted, some is ball busting but this is one of the reasons I'm moving away from the F-Bodies. I'll prolly sell mine in a couple years and get a used ZO6 Vette.

I've owned two Cavies.. A 95 and a 97. Owned them till 2003 when I bought the Camaro. I know my J-bodies pretty well.. Trust me.. it's still a cavie.. it feels the same even though it's different on paper. Same problems still plague it. Weak car that has been improved slightly.

The new VW's are fine. The Bug is a nightmare, yes. My buddy had nothing but problems with his.And he has had his 08 GTi for a while now and not one problem. The only other GM I will buy is a Vette or a truck..

F Bodies don't have to ride like dump trucks. That can be fixed. Now that I have the Koni shocks on my car it feels much tighter and more composed. It's still a firm ride, but firm like it means business, not firm like it's going to fall apart and shake your fillings loose. I know they're pricey and dropping that kind of money on a ride/handling upgrade isn't for everyone, but I'm really glad I did it, the car is much more satisfying to drive now. I would be willing to bet even the shocks in the ~$400 price range would make a world of difference.

All of that being said, I'm sure a GTI is a fun car to drive and has good power and handling. I went for maximum thrift with my DD, although it does handle pretty good too. But a car like that is a nice compromise. I gave serious thought to a Mazda3 as my new DD, which has a lot of the same good qualities that the GTI does. My only concern with a VW would be repair costs, plus they can be a nightmare to work on. But if you get a good warranty then it's not such a concern.

^ I already have a Camaro. If I wanted ANOTHER one I would have gotten one by now. I think the 2010 may be too much car for me right now.

And I do plan on having the car covered by the warranty.
