Simple answer.. NO
Get whatever is cheap. You dont have the power to beat on it to need them and if you ever raced it factory brakes would work fine. My brakes stopped my car very easily and theyre nothing special from Advance

In all honesty I'd recommend ditching the puny factory suck bag brakes and do a c5 conversion. However, I know you don't want to lose your wheels.
So, what it really boils down to is intended usage. If you're just looking to cruise around and putt to car shows or back and forth to work then by all means whatever is cheap will work fine. However, if you drive the car HARD, then pony up the dough. I personally can't tolerate the stock brakes on a third gen. My last 87 warped the shit out of the rotors and spanked a set of pads in under 6 months. I tossed it all in favor of a c5 front brake conversion and never looked back. Those I got crossdrilled rotors from gm performance and a I forget what brand set of ceramic pads. They held up just fine for over a year and a half of the same if not worse abuse with plenty of life left. Course I'm not your normal putt around kind of driver either. My third gen has subframe connectors, is a hard top car, ran a stock carb'd 305/700r4, and I still managed to stress crack the sail panels. I am in no way shape or form nice to my cars and can't tolerate the weak suck factory brakes on most f bodies. But again, for normal people, who don't treat the streets like they're running laps at Watkins glen, napa stuff will probably do. But the first time you feel REAL braking power you'll realize there is a BIG difference.

ill tell you this on every thing i own except the camaro i run the duralast stuff. on the camaro I turned the duralast golds into charcoal brickets after one track day and now im putting ebcs in. but I drive way harder than you even ever could if you tried to in your car.

Once you're at that point just upgrade the wheels to 17's. You can find 17's in a similar style to your wheels. They're basically just a mesh pattern not bowling ball hubcap wheels like KITT. And if you're worried about resale value just save the stock parts and reinstall if need be. Once you feel a set of REAL brakes it's tough to go back. My 87 had a stock carb'd 305 and was slow as balls but with the big brakes, zo6 wheels/wide tires, and some suspension tweaks it was a blast to drive.

it seems they change the site again. it looks I have to call them to find out how much they are and what it fits. i am not worried about the resale value. I just like the look of the 15 inch rims upgrading the brakes would most likely increase the value of the car |

How are the 3rd gen brake calipers? I know with LS1 brakes most people think they suck, when all they need to do is a little maintenance to the brake system and toss in some pads that have good street/performance stopping power.
A c5 kit is affordable compared to other big brake kits. Though even that is overkill unless you just want it for the looks. Plus, you will only stop as quick as your tires will let you. If you're on like some 300+ treadwear summer tire.. the c5 kit probably won't stop you any better than stock brakes in good condition. If you can lock up the tires as is, all you'll do is lock them up earlier with better brakes. |
