My car has rubber engine mounts and a poly trans mount and I have had no problems at all. Is my car that much different from an F-Body? Or is it because of the torque arm on the trans that causes all the problems?

I don't think it's related to the torque arm. The problem is that when the engine flexes under load and the trans can't flex with it there is a lot of stress on the tailshaft housing, which is what breaks.
