That seems to be the same way with everything. I am gonna pull the drivetrain this winter, prob get rid of the clutch and have you go through the tranny and if nothing else get a cam at least, as well as get suspension and go throughout the car and clean it up.

Thats a good bit of work already so we'll see how much time I actually get, just working on it on the weekends.

If I do the turbo setup it would be also to gain a new skill. If I did it, I'de buy the manifolds or borrow them from someone, buy the tubing and the welder (because I really need something cheap anyway to tack things together anyway) and see if I can mock up the whole setup before actually buying the turbo and other componets, so if its taking too much time or I get in over my head I can abort and just be out the cost of the tubing/flanges ect.

Don the procharger looks like it would be about 3500$ at the bare minimum.

The headunit being the biggest expense. At this point I am looking on mustang forums and what not to see if I could even pick up a P1SC cheaper somewhere else and then either finding a corvette mountin bracket (may need to switch to corvette acessories though) or use the swap car mounting bracket that looks the same as the GTO setup.

Turbo's look/sound cool but the car would be faster at the track with a Procharger. The Procharger works linier compared to a hit with a turbo.

Also with either, that rear has to go for a lower gear.

Cant tell over the internet if your just jokin around or not.. but here is that same turbo setup on a stock iron block 5.3L I would assume it would be better on an Ls1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpVTO5a2ItI

This guy is walking it off the line, running 9s at 145mph and then driving it home still on the bone stock 5.3 on pump gas no meth

Don I'll have to talk to you sometime this winter on what to do with the car.. the car and my goals are at odds with each other now. I've already accomplished the things I want to do with this car and pushing it any more I'll prob exceed its real capabilities so I'm thinking of moving to another rx7 or another chassis in general. I'll have to talk to you more about it. If I did the turbo setup.. the car would no longer really be a drag strip machine because I dont feel like investing in a cage on a rusted chassis. Plus much more power and I'll prob start blowing up rear ends coming off the line at the strip.

That RX7 at the shootout was on a stock rear end. he was a procharged LS1 running 8.90's just saying. unless your car is That rotted and the rear end is that beat. why not just get a charger and tune it. run 10's all day.

Manual trannys are a shit load harder on the rear end than the autos. Glides are especially easy on the rear end and I am assuming thats what that guy was running. Even with a glide leaving semi soft on real wrinkle walls I am surprised he hasnt twisted an axle.. even with all that stuf guys are twisting axles right at the splines where they meet the hub or at the splines of the stub shafts consistently around the 1.4 60' mark. With a manual tranny (especially with MT drag radials) people blow up the ring gear or snap stub shafts with the stock ls1 launching lower than I was launching at the track. I was actually givin a bit of hell and still bogging like crazy. I prob need to launch around 6k rpm to get off the line without bogging when the track is prepped.

I could prob run 10s cam only. THe only thing is I really liked bracket racing but I have no class my import can race in other than king of the hill

I was actually thinking of switching to a c4 vette seeing as a cobra rear end done right is about 3k 1k for the diff and cradle if your lucky and then about 2k for custom halfshafts and bigger 33spline hubs. Once you pull the engine/tranny out of the c4 and put the ls1/t56 in it, its a very light car only about 100lbs more than my rx7. The manual tranny cars come with Dana44 rear ends, same diff pretty much as what comes in the vipers and guys go 8s on in manually shifted cars pushin around 1000whp so I'll never need to worry about it.

C4s are cheap, I've seen them do really well at autox, even better on a road course, you can fit 315s on them all the way around on certain years, and you can cut 1.3 60s on the stock rear suspension before even having to think about the rear end. So it just seems like a better platform, then I could also run real street or quick street, whatever I want the car to run, and it would prob apprciate in value with the ls1 in it. Plus the ls1 swap should be very easy on that car seeing as all you need to mount an ls1 to old school sbc mounts is adapter plates and a tranny cross mount.

Thats where my heads at right now.. wanted to get input from you guys. I could still do the same turbo setup in the c4 or the procharger for that matter.

Downsides, the early c4s which are the cheap ones usually have bad wiring issues, they suffer from terrible creaks and rattles have a terribly ugle interior, even though they handle well on a race track doesnt meen the suspension isnt completly upset over even the smallest bumps on real roads. I basically have heard they skip acrss the road on bumps and selection always seems limited in mass.

I'll have to drive one to see but from everything I've read a C5 is way better than a c4 in most ways and a c6 is better than a c5 in most ways.. I've driven a stock c6 and although theres nothing wrong with it I thought it felt more like a touring car than a sports car.
