Looking for a new fbody
So im letting go of my v6, I was originally looking at jeeps, but decided I need an fbody. This time around I would love to get a v8.
I was looking at this car: http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/cto/1927043710.html Now, that price is so low for an SS! I called and the guy said it has 72k miles, clean title. The car had the transmission rebuilt because of a bad sun gear. Other then that he said it was fine. But from the sound of it, he doesn't baby the car. The interiors shot(bad rugs, torn seats), and he said he would take me on a "power ride" and I'd sh!t my self LOL. Now do you think its worth the risk? I mean for 6k it doesnt seem like I can go wrong, but if it was abused and at that price just seems risky. He just replaced all the 02 sensors, but it is throwing code for what i think he said was AIR. So inputs are welcome, im going friday to look at it, so none of you better go snatch it up on me!!! hahaha Just let me know what you guys think, or actually if anyones near there, maybe seen the car before? |
theres better out there with around the same miles and given better care. I'd widen the search, I'm looking around for a friend of mine, but if you want a real nice deal Chef has this for sale... worth the interest

Ya i was lookig at Chef's, Im gonna go check it out this saturday I think. But im just unsure If I wanna drop that kinda coin. Its a little outta my price range, but maybe.

|
if the cars that beat i wouldnt do it...like joe said theres plenty of nicer ones for that kind of money out there...if ur willing to wait for a couple months ull see more come out of the woodwork for sale.

that Z is a perfect example (if the miles are right) and heres another 1 http://worcester.craigslist.org/cto/1915525763.html |
that blue ss has been up there for a while i would probably stay away from it...but those other ones look like pretty good deals

Yeah this clearly sounds like a car that's been abused, I'd steer clear. Just keep looking and be patient.

Thanks for the links guys. And yes, I just got too excited seeing the price. Id actually like something stock, but thats very rare. That black t/a posted is nice, just unsure about the holes. Ill keep looking for sure, somethings gotta pop up at some point.
Im just getting pressure from the person who wants my car. I actually had a t/a lined up, but the seller mysteriously stop talking me for the last 2 weeks. So i had to tell them I cant let go of the car just yet. So I need something soon, but you cant rush these things, I just dont ever think Ill actually get the asking price for my car again, so I dont wanna miss out. just would like to get some thoughts on this: http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/in...=&cardist=5331 Now would it be better to maybe, go with my car and do trade in? I think I can get more for my car by taking my private buyers offer and then going to them with money in hand. But is it cheaper usually to do loans through a dealer like this? Or through my personal bank? also thoughts on this : http://hartford.craigslist.org/cto/1932084437.html I mean, its a clean car from the pics, but KBB says this car is around 6700-6900. I think hes asking to much. What are your thoughts? I think 7k seems more reasonable |
You will always get more selling your car than trading it in. And even if you want to trade it in you don't tell the dealer that until you've agreed on a price for the car you're buying. And if you're going to a dealership to look at a car have financing lined up, from multiple places if possible, so you can compare what they have to offer, which may or may not be better.
That Camaro sounds pretty good, sounds like it was babied, the fact that he kept stock parts says he is meticulous about the car. You could try to talk him down a little but someone else might snatch it up. You have to consider whether you want to try to save a few hundred bucks but take a chance on losing the oppurtunity to sell your Firebird rather than trading it in and taking a hit or trying to find another buyer for it. That Formula looks nice too, but obviously the low miles plus being at a dealer brings the price up. |
like that formy.... the kbb on it is almost dead on I'd say offer 10,500 or have check/cash in hand (money talks).
but then again you could buy an 11-12sec street legal machine for less. (by buying Chefs) lol |
Why not Buy Mike Englishe's 1LE when he gets back? It is an LT1 but it is plenty rare

http://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/1907374115.html even better deal, but once again hes a little above kbb, and AC not working is a killer, whats a repair like that go for? Also ls1 piston slap, thats common right? nothing horrible? Also said it has a rattle which he think is heat shield. interior is used, stains ect. But think hes a little high on the price again. Or im just a cheapo :) |
Mike is in Afghanistan at the moment. He wont be back till October sometime.

Also as far as insurance and registration, anything I need to know when doing an out of state vehicle? |
depends where you buy from..MA will not honor a title that is more then seven years old from RI or NH you can still registar it with out much of a problem just need a bill of sale and like a copy of previous registration..im not sure what happens about getting a new title tho i only know because when i was looking for my car my old man wouldnt let me get one unless i would have a clear title for it but from CT its just as good as a MA and shouldnt have any problems
|
ok, thanks man. Ill just talk with my insurance guy tomorrow, get a run down.
deal of a lifetime right here http://newhaven.craigslist.org/ctd/1933511304.html :p |

I think it costs $25 to apply for a new title, the form I saw looked pretty simple too. |

Haha, I know. I assumed typo or scam. Going saturday to look at that white Z. I hate white, but hell 52k miles sure has me interested.
I talked to the guy with the other Z. And yes you could tell he was all over that thing with maintenance. His asking price was high, but he said its tough to find another not hacked up. I like the color allot more, but that price is just so high, and 30k miles more then the white z! |
So I went and looked at this car:
http://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/1907374115.html Car was really clean! Interior looked great. Paint was in great condition. It only has 53k on the clock, so I would expect it to be good. Car was never driven in winter, only 2 owners. Car drove perfect, very straight, no rattling or vibrations. Checked all the fluids everything looked perfect. What I liked most was the car wasnt molested. Only had an SLP lid and LM1 catback. He wanted 7800 since he was buying a house and needed the cash. I offered 6900 and he said thats just too low. He said 7200 was the lowest hed go. We eventually agreed on 7k. Hopefully getting it sometime late this week or early next week. I loved the white, i thought that was going to be a boring color, but with the black sail panel, black berger and chrome wheels, I actually loved it, maybe more then my MRM. Thanks for all the help guys! Im gonna love this car, and Im happy I went with something a little more clean and not modified. |
Congrats!
