Rear Main Seal?

Ok so i just got me a $955 clutch/Flywheel combo+$100 for my ZR1's but heres my question, im gonna be changing the clutch this week sometime, and i was wondering, do i have to drop the oil pan a little bit to replace the rear main? cuz from what it looks like the seal is inside this metal bracket thingy that looks like the timing cover....can that thing be removed without the oil pan being dropped?

oh and the Clutch is a LuK Pro Gold 04-903 and it came with a high performance SFi Aluminum Flywheel not a bad deal eh? i was selling the rims with tires for $500 some dude with a white 94Z from portland ME.

you dont need to drop the pan you can get the seal out with out pulling the cover If you pull it you should use the GM alignment tool to put it back on. if there is a cover alignment issue than the seal WILL leak so you should not pull it unless you can realign it.

that thread basically says dont take the cover off its not necessary unless the gasket around the cover is leaking which may be possible but i doubt it, i just noticed a little oil coming out of the front of the trans but its not much, it could be blowback from the oil filter, but w/e ill replace them either way, ill check it when i take the flywheel off, Oh! and does any1 know how much the stock flywheel weighs?

the aluminum flywheel being lighter will cause a harsher engagement too just so you know. it takes alot of the street manures out of a pucked clutch If thats what you have?

i dn about ls1's but i know its simple on a LT1 to replace the rear main

Yeah good luck with the aluminum flywheel, they suck on the street. Like riding a rodeo bull. But as stated above leave the covers alone, the rear main comes out really easily and is the culprit 99% of the time. The rear cover has a very nice gasket and rarely leaks

this flywheel isnt that light compared to stock, not only that but this clutch is designed to still have that OEM Feel, its not a pucked disc looks just like the stock one, the pressure plate looks like an LS7 Pressure plate, thats why the clutch is so damn expensive, look it up its a

So according to the description its grabs better, handles more horsepower than the stock clutch and other "Painted on" modified performance clutches, but still leaves that comfortable stock clutch driveability, only time will tell i guess, but the flywheel is still pretty heavy, its about 14lbs

14 pounds is REALLY light for a flywheel. Mine weighs around 28ish. The problem is the lack of inertia, engine will rev unbelievably fast but the moment of inertia is so low clutch engagement is almost instantaneous, think of revving the engine and dumping the clutch and that is what you might be facing
