I had 13 rotty pups grow up in my house, quite a few of them would act this way with something that they were protecting.
one was her food bowl, one was his favorite ball, the other was me, or anyone else that was getting/giving the attention at that time. it's a very normal thing for them, we thought the same things at first when they were growing up. after many visits to either the vet. or a trainer it came out to be just something some dogs do. so Mad's closer to truth...

yup they are protective by nature but some dogs can be dangerous with that lol unfortunately dogs get put down for that type of behavior cause they cant pass tests to be adopted out..my dog wasnt a rottie(i want one!) but an akita and she was not as bad like that rottie but she got upset with 2 things her bone and if someone got to close to me in a negative way. She liked to jump in their face haha

mine got like that when any of the other dogs came near me while she was next to me or in bed. none of them ever got like that unless it was their fav toy or food bowl.

i disagree. my rottie did that as a puppy too. we broke him of it pretty fast after he bit me. he never did it again. its not harmless wen it can be a little baby and hes snipping at the kid. NOT COOL. just saying. if that were my diog it wouldnt have been aloud to get that old and still cary the same behavior

it is the rottie being overprotective of what he thinks is "his" Yes he may not hurt the owner but put a stranger near him like that and i gaurentee hed go to bite him

^^ you sir are missing the point. joke or not my dog will not act like that. it may just be a beer bottle yes HAHA funny. if it was his food, toy, anything he wanted its out of hand and that type of behavior shouldnt be tolerated. one day he will bite someone. and be put to sleep for it. wich is sad because the owner will be all upset and pissed of and in reality its his or her fault.
