Default False Thoughts?

So i was having a chat with my friend whom is a mechanic and we were talking about my car and what I wanted to eventually do to it...

So i wanted to eventually get to doing a cam i was telling him and didn't know if i should go as far as doing valves, rods, blah blah blah...

He said that he would be reluctant to do all the top end work because the engine has 127k on it and that he would worry about the bottom end blowing...

what do you guys think about this?? I think that sounds a little excessive because the vast majority of these engines out there have high mileage and a lot of people build out there top ends..

Any thoughts?

I think he is right but many have done it. If it were me i would start rebuilding a motor on the side and do that work then justswap motors

The lt1 has a known issue with rod bearings. The guy is right if it were me id do as john sed and rebuild a block for future speed parts to go on and in. Trusting a high milage motor is not safe and what ever part you install internally if a rod goes you run the risk of losing everything.

I agree, build a short block on the side and as $$ allows add parts. On one of the other forums a guy just sold a rebuilt short block for 750.00 he had 1800 in machine work in it. I purchased a back yard rebuilt with all accs and harnessed/ecu for 850.00 that's going into a jeep. My engine builder took a look at it and said it was done right. I purchased iron heads (100.00 brand new) and for under a G note for everything ready to drop in.
