sounds like you bought a mess. i wouldnt drive it at all untill you figure all that out. 9 times out of 10 if its the opti it runs like shit, and wont effect anything but the timing events. ckp sensor is only for miss fire and does no other function. so that wont cause anything like you describe. id say go threw a proper diagram wire by wire that has been fucked with and put them all back were they belong/in a not fucked with state. and go from there. you got some Long weekends on your hands. im willing to bet all the fucked with shit was from a remote starter or something along those lines. maybe an alarm that kills the car. and some one put it in all jacked. good luck!

IDK what the fuck this person did. There was a wire spliced into the opti harness that goes over to part of the harness right at the driver's side edge of the engine bay. Then there's a wire spliced in at the ignition coil that goes down under the passenger side manifold somewhere. They also had the fans set to come on with key on by running household wire from the fuse box down to the fans. Ruh-tarded.

That's obnoxious someone messed with the wiring like that. I say get a new harness might be worth it than dealing with his shit.

OMG hahaha, I wonder if they sold a buddy of mine a 87 Chevy 1500 about 5 yrs ago. Dude had half of the gauges and 90% of the fuse panel wired up with 12-2 Romex. Took almost a month of weekends just to get it back right, and that was only a carbed engine because everything was so hacked up in there.

yea i bought it for 450.00 with the issues couldn't pass it up thought it be somthing dumb and def didn't want him too jyard it evrything good except trans and wiring.

so spent all day and nite yesterday and most of today unhooking and rehooking the whole engine end of the harness to the pcm , man what a mess had to get all the nasty old burnt crumbly loom off and then all old rotted tape and half ass wrap jobs they did cleaning every inch i went ? What i found is not only a hack in to the opti harness low res side and almost 25% of the wires where nicked and bare rubbing on each other all the way thru the harness like a rat chewed it or somthing. So i repined the main wires that where damaged thru out the harness. then sifted thru every wire and cleaned the loom up , almost every injector wire was destroyed too? so the engine bay is totaly cleaned up and i no its good. car starts perfect and throwing no more p1371 but am throwing the ckp still because for some reason my 96 dont got a crank sensor ha ha go figure them fuckers. So i plan to continue the search with the trans wiring and under dash wiring this week.also went thru all vacumes and replaced all what a head ache but patience is the key ive learned with the other!

p1371 is low res from opti. your crank sensor should be in the bottom drivers side of the timing cover. if its not there??? you have a 1995 or worse 1993-1994 timing cover and need the proper cover to get the crank sensor in there or have it tuned out. there really is no telling what it will do if you dont have a low res pulse and your also missing the ckp input. take care of that then move on id say.

If this car really has the wrong timing cover for some reason could he tap it for a CPS?

And what does low res pulse usually indicate?

low res is usually opti harness related. but sometimes can be the opti itself. usually you see the high res go bad first. and as far as the cover goes its a completely different cover. and he will also need to add the reluctor behind the cover.
