Here you go:

DETROIT—General Motors Co. GM +0.11% is bringing the Chevrolet Camaro back to America.

The auto maker announced plans Wednesday to move production of the next-generation Camaro to Lansing, Mich., from Oshawa, Ontario, citing "a lower capital investment and improved production efficiencies" in making the move.

The shift is expected to occur in late 2015 or early 2016, according to union officials. GM refused to disclose a date, citing competition reasons. The Camaro was built in the U.S. until 1992, when GM moved production from Van Nuys, Calif., to Quebec, Canada.

Canadian Auto Workers President Ken Lewenza criticized GM for its decision and called on Canadian government officials to hold the country's 156.1 million shares in the auto maker forever. Canada was given a 9% stake in GM in exchange for providing the auto maker bailout funding in 2009. Mr. Lewenza said the Camaro move will lead to the loss of about 1,000 jobs in Oshawa.

"General Motors has once again shown a complete and utter disregard for its workers and also Canadians in general, whose tax dollars kept the company out of bankruptcy," Mr. Lewenza said in a statement.

The Camaro announcement comes three months after GM fashioned a new labor contract with the CAW. Although GM won the right to reduce pay for new hires, it was looking for more givebacks.

GM officials contend most of the jobs lost by the Camaro shift will be offset by further production plans in Canada. It intends to continue producing the Buick Regal at the Oshawa plant along with the new Chevrolet Impala due out in 2013.

"It's all smoke and mirrors," Mr. Lewenza said. "We will suffer a major job loss."

GM declined to comment further.

Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty downplayed the job-loss scenario and the decision by GM to move Camaro production back to the U.S.

"I think that some moves are being made for technical purposes by General Motors," he said. "GM has commitments to Canada that they made as part of the bailout, and I have their commitment that they will keep those commitments to Canada."

Definitely not!

It's just nice to see manufacturing jobs coming back into the US instead of jobs leaving.

ita, the whole nafta shitbomb it was definitely gave the companies here incentives to leave and go south. it's about time we start nailing companies that use overseas manufacturing with a higher tax rate and/or import tariffs that equal what our exports are to china, etc. maybe that will be a big enough kick in the ass to get these guys back into the country and help boost our own economy. I don't know about of a lot of the guys here, but I for one would gladly pay more for something that was produced here that was proudly built in the usa with higher quality standards.

about time somebody tries to make "Made in the USA" mean something again!
